Great Yarmouth 2011

Residents of Great Yarmouth braced themselves for the recent parish holiday. For the past seven years, a party of festive holiday makers from St Andrew’s has travelled the length and breadth of the country in search of paradise. This year, a group of forty-six (some stalwarts and others as first-timers) went to the Hadleigh Gables hotel on the front at Great Yarmouth.

The Tuesday excursion was billed as a Mystery Tour. Even the driver, Carl, seemed perplexed, asking “Shall we go down here?” It was all a ploy, of course, as we spent the afternoon in Cromer having first visited one of the larger boatyards on the Broads. Some visited the Museum of the Broads while others took in the atmosphere, sitting next to a butty bar.

A trip to Norwich on Thursday was another highlight. The Castle was good value though the Cathedral was closed for filming a Warner Brothers’ blockbuster.

Evenings were marked by entertainment ranging from nightly bingo (even Carl took a share in the winnings) to cabaret. On the Wednesday evening, some of St Andrew’s laid on a special Dance Night for all the guests.
